Mirah – “Turned The Heat Off (The Blow Mix)” (Stereogum Premiere)
Mirah’s new album, Changing Light, is filled with big feelings and big sounds. The album was inspired by a breakup, and throughout you’ll find sweeping strings and glossy electronic beats. Yet in the Blow’s remix for “Turned The Heat Off,” Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne choose to go for something small. All the same intensity of Mirah’s performance is there, but the music is pared down to a minimal electronic pulse. Not only is it an outstanding song on its own merits, it’s also a reminder that what makes Changing Light so good is that underneath all the excellent production are well-written songs, plain and simple. Listen.
Changing Light is out now via Absolute Magnitude with support from K Records.
