Atlanta garage punks the Coathangers have a giddy and hectic and erratic sound that belongs entirely to them. But on a new split single with labelmates These Arms Are Snakes, they’re taking on another band’s style. On that split, the Coathangers cover “Sex Beat,” a song from dark, rockabilly-infused L.A. punk originals the Gun Club. The Coathangers play the song as a giddy pogo, not a controlled throb, and their version is a blast. Listen below.

The split single is out 12/2 on Suicide Squeeze. These Arms Are Snakes’ song, a cover of Lost Sounds’ “Energy Drink & The Long Walk Home,” was the last thing that TAAS recorded before breaking up a few years ago.
