Ryan Adams Is Scoring Al Pacino’s New John Lennon-Inspired Movie
In the early to mid aughts, Ryan Adams was releasing music at a superhuman rate, and writing it with greater prolificacy still. Then he slowed down a lot — primarily due to his bout with Ménière’s disease, and probably abetted by his burgeoning relationship with now-wife Mandy Moore and his recovery from addiction. This year, though, he came back with such force that it made up entirely for his relatively quiet period: He released his own great self-titled LP — which he’s promoting with countless TV appearances and an ambitious tour — he produced Jenny Lewis’ excellent new album, The Voyager, he dropped like half a dozen 7″s, he covered Foreigner and Bryan Adams and Sam Smith and Danzig … And now he’s co-scored Danny Collins, a new comedy starring Al Pacino. Adams worked on the score with veteran composer Theodore Shapiro. Here’s what Film Music Reporter had to say about the project:
The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love.) and stars Al Pacino, Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Peck and Christopher Plummer. The movie follows a rocker who decides to change his life after discovering a letter written to him by John Lennon — prompting him to track down his biological son, whom he’s never met.
The film was “inspired by a true story” and Pacino plays “the rocker.” The film will also feature some of Lennon’s songs and it was originally titled Imagine. What else do ya need to know? It’s out next year, and you can keep up with it via its website.
