Will Butler – “Take My Side”
This morning we saw Will Butler’s spazzy trailer for debut solo album Policy, and now the Arcade Fire member has shared that project’s lead single. It’s called “Take My Side,” and it’s a jumpy, wiry rock ‘n’ roll track that fits in better with the Merge Records aesthetic than Arcade Fire’s own music does (see: the Spider Bags and Reigning Sound tracks that SoundCloud recommends when you listen to Butler’s song). “Are you gonna take my side?” he wonders aloud as guitars violently skitter to a relentless thumping rhythm. This thing’s got some anxious swing to it. Listen below.
Press materials indicate that Butler produced Policy at Electric Lady Studios in New York with engineer Ben Baptie except “Something’s Coming,” which was recorded in Aaron Dessner’s garage and Jeremy Gara’s basement. That song was a co-write with Gara, Tim Kingsbury, and Arcade Fire video director Marcel Dzama.
Policy tracklist:
01 “Take My Side”

03 “Finish What I Started”
04 “Son Of God”

08 “Witness”
Policy is out 3/10 on Merge.
