Ryan Adams Unveils 7″ With Johnny Depp, Christmas Merch, Dead Kennedys Cover
Ryan Adams’ self-released Pax-Am era continues to be incredibly fruitful. The latest batch of Adams news includes a 7″ with Johnny Depp, Christmas merchandise, and a Dead Kennedys cover with Jello Biafra himself. Incidentally, here’s a tiny photo of Adams with Depp and Biafra from Buzzfeed’s recent Adams profile:
First, here are the details about the new 7″: It’s called “No Shadow” b/w “It’s In My Head” and “Stoned Alone.” “No Shadow” is the product of a spontaneous jam session with Depp, whom Adams called “a real songwriter and one of the deepest guitar players out there.” in a post at the Pax-Am site:
“Johnny came rumbling into PaxAm one night with this riff and an idea of what it was about- a few hour later and one take on a 2 inch 24 track tape machine later we had No Shadow… typed up on my manual typewriter and born and delivered from a simple riff we found on his i phone. Johnny is a real songwriter and one of the deepest guitar players out there. Thats us singing and playing and playing all the parts ourselves with just our pal Marshal Vore on drums.
The B side is from the first night we met where all we did was play and didn’t say a word. This was the third thing we ever played together and there was no discussion. True rock and roll moments, as they should be, unfussy and delivered with all the heart and soul we had that night.
Track three is a little song I wrote about being stoned in the 7-11 parking lot across from Pax which is groundhog day for me and most that fly with us.”
We love you PaxAmer’s. Have a great XMAS
Enjoy.
DRA Winter 2014
“No Shadow” is up for pre-order at Pax-Am and will be out 1/13. Next on the agenda: Christmas merch! Yes, Adams is now among the many rockers hawking his very own ugly Christmas sweaters; according to the tweet below, you can purchase them on his current tour. Christmas ornaments emblazoned with Adams’ logo are on sale at his web store for about $15.

Lastly, during a tour stop in San Francisco, Adams invited Biafra on stage at the Shining to perform the Dead Kennedys’ “Moon Over Marin.” Watch fan-made footage of the performance below.
