Dev Hynes & Connan Mockasin, Grouper, Iceage Playing Inaugural New Myths Festival
The indie label Mexican Summer is throwing itself a big party this spring, and it’s calling it the New Myths Festival. This isn’t a standard music festival. Rather, it’s a set of musicians and artists (including people who rarely play festivals) taking over the remote artists’-colony town of Marfa, Texas for a weekend in March. The fest will include plenty of live sets: Grouper, Iceage, Tamaryn, Steve Gunn, Weyes Blood, SuicideYear, Co La. And it’ll also have things like Dev Hynes and Connan Mockasin, working as recording artists in residence and spending the weekend making a one-off collaborative 12″ that’ll ship out later in the year. Grouper’s Liz Harris won’t just perform; she’ll also create a mural over the weekend. And the program includes stuff like this: “Jefre Cantu-Ledesma creating a 90-minute sound bath at holistic wellness center The Well.” This sounds like a fun festival!
