Passenger Peru – “The Best Way To Drown” (Stereogum Premiere)
“The Best Way To Drown” is a monster flood of a track, taking its name to heart and coming across like a rush of oncoming water. It feels epic in scope — a dark, gnarled aura of foreboding, with churning guitars that border on catchy but end up somewhere around menacing. It’s the first track we’ve heard from Passenger Peru’s forthcoming sophomore effort, Light Places. The Brooklyn duo made up of Justin Stivers and Justin Gonzales expand the sonic ground they covered on their self-titled debut to explore a blustery, scorched-earth sense of doom. “The more I figure out, the less I figure out,” they sing at one point, conveying the feeling of drifting existence that the song captures so well. You can listen to it below.
Light Places is out 2/23 via Fleeting Youth Records.
