Angela Lansbury Breaks Her Legendary Silence About The Murder She Wrote Reboot
It’s been a depressing day. I don’t say that as a way to introduce something that might brighten it (because what could?) (“An Arrested Development/Futurama crossover Netflix movie announcement!!”) (hahah) (I MADE THAT UP), I just thought we should point out the state of the world before moving on to do our dumb jobs here, because sheesh. What are we going to do? Not think about it? LIKE BLOG ROBOTS? No. This site has not (yet) been taken over by blog robots. Anyway, Angela Lansbury has finally broken her legendary one-week silence about NBC’s upcoming Murder She Wrote reboot! AhHHHhh. From the Washington Post:
Angela Lansbury says “it’s a mistake” for NBC to call a new series “Murder, She Wrote.”
The network recently announced plans to reboot the show with Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer as its star. Spencer acknowledged her new TV project on Twitter last month. …
“I think it’s a mistake to call it ‘Murder, She Wrote,’” Lansbury said, “because ‘Murder, She Wrote’ will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person …
“So I’m sorry that they have to use the title ‘Murder, She Wrote,’ even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”
Lansbury said she admires Spencer’s work. “I saw her in ‘The Help’ and thought she was absolutely wonderful, a lovely actress,” Lansbury said. “So I wish her well, but I wish it wasn’t in ‘Murder, She Wrote.’”
Oh, Angela Lansbury, Angela Lansbury, Angela Lansbury. DON’T YOU GET IT, ANGELA LANSBURY? If NBC doesn’t name the series “Murder She Wrote,” then people won’t automatically know that it is a reboot of Murder She Wrote! And if people can’t automatically know that it is a reboot of Murder She Wrote, then NBC can’t, probably incorrectly, assume that people will watch the show! And if NBC can’t, probably incorrectly, assume that people will watch the show, THEY’LL HAVE TO THINK OF A WHOLE NEW IDEA! In 2013?! Uh-nah-uh, Angela Lansbury. Get with it, girl. This stuff isn’t not going to write itself.
