How Was Everyone’s Day Today?
How was your day? Uh-oh, was it bad? Oh no. Are you sick?! Luckily it’s the end of the day — you should go home and get some rest. Maybe have some ginger ale? Maybe get into bed and pay $.50 or $.99 to watch one of thirty 6-minute installments of three extra episodes of Breaking– Wait, what? The plan Jeffrey Katzenberg, the very wealthy CEO of Dreamworks Animation, had to pay $75 million for three more episodes of Breaking Bad in order to distribute them in a maddening daily online 6-minute format didn’t actually pan out? Oh, well now I don’t know what you’re going to do! From Variety:
“I had this crazy idea. I was nuts for the show. I had no idea where this season was going,” he said, during the keynote session at Mipcom.
“The last series cost about $3.5 million an episode. So they would make more profit from these three shows than they made from five years of the entire series,” he said.
He explained that he had intended to show the extra content as six-minute segments over 30 days online.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE RECAPS?! God, the recaps. And the tweets! What a nightmare. But I don’t understand why the way the series ended would throw a wrench into Mr. Katzenberg’s plan. Britney has it figured out? You probably wouldn’t even need to pay her for the contribution, it seems like she’d be happy to hand it over. Think about it, boys! An ambulance! HOW WAS YOUR DAY? (Thanks for the tip, Gabe!)
