In an interview with the Guardian, the idea of Nicolas Cage memes was brought up to Nicolas Cage, and he knew about them, kind of! From the Guardian:

Who would have thought that Nicolas Cage, not even a computer guy himself, would become the subject of Internet obsession. It’s good to know you are out there, Nicolas. It’s good to know that you’ve joined us. As long as you continue to generate content for memes, we will continue to put words over it or mash it up or whatever it is we do. Until we grow tired.
