Nicolas Cage Finally Responds To Internet’s Obsession With Nicolas Cage
“Is he out there?” you wonder every night, sometimes lulling yourself to sleep but more often keeping yourself awake. “Is he out there watching us? If not, does that take something away from our obsession? Are we doing this merely for our own enjoyment, or is there some element of… No. No, he must be out there. He must know. I can feel that he knows.” Man, you are super intense, but hey you were right! In an interview with the Guardian, the idea of Nicolas Cage memes was brought up to Nicolas Cage, and he knew about them, kind of! From the Guardian:
“Oh my god. I just can’t keep up with that stuff,” he says. “The internet has developed this thing about me – and I’m not even a computer guy, you know? I don’t know why it is happening. I’m trying not to… lemme say this: I’m now of the mindset that, when in Rome, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”
Most of it seems affectionate, I suggest.
“Well,” a sudden, sardonic smile, “it is, but with enormous amounts of irony. Affection loaded with irony.”
Who would have thought that Nicolas Cage, not even a computer guy himself, would become the subject of Internet obsession. It’s good to know you are out there, Nicolas. It’s good to know that you’ve joined us. As long as you continue to generate content for memes, we will continue to put words over it or mash it up or whatever it is we do. Until we grow tired. Then we will both lie down together, separate but one, and bury ourselves in the Earth. As our breath grows shallow, we will understand. Right? Or, wait, what? What are we talking about?
