Icky Blossoms – “In Folds” (Stereogum Premiere)
Omaha trio Icky Blossoms are back this spring with Mask, their second album of inventive electro-pop. Whereas their 2012 self-titled debut was produced by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, for Mask they turned to hometown hero Mike Mogis. Lead single “In Folds” starts out with ominous new wave synth riff, but pretty soon it settles into a bubbly major-key groove. It pleasantly reminds me of Holy Ghost!’s melancholy dance party but with tender female vocals at the forefront. Hell of a chorus, too: “I’ll give you what you want/ I’ll give you what you need/ If you come back to me/ I’ll give you everything.” Listen below.
