Mitski released her astounding third full-length Bury Me At Makeout Creek on the small but mighty Brooklyn-based label Double Double Whammy in November of 2014. The record landed a spot on our year-end 50 Best Albums list, and I wrote the following about Mitski’s adept songwriting: “Bury Me At Makeout Creek isn’t an aggressive record, but there’s something self-aware and almost bitingly melancholic about it that negates the sweeter tendencies found on Mitski’s first two releases. Still, each track contains some sort of ripple, a slight suggestion that things are not as serious as they may seem.”

Today, Don Giovanni announced that they will be re-releasing Bury Me At Makeout Creek and shared this new video for the record’s standout single “Townie.” Faye Orlove, who is perhaps best known for her illustrative work in the bi-weekly web zine The Media, directed the new animated video. It’s a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the song’s sometimes-violent imagery, with a pink overlay and an abundance of female hygiene products. In short: it rules. Don Giovanni has also presented the tracklist of the expanded Bury Me At Makeout Creek, which will include four bonus songs, three of which were recorded live on my WNYU radio show the Sound Between by Gus Callahan on October 28th, 2014, before the record’s first pressing.
