Snoop Dogg Is The SXSW Music 2015 Keynote Speaker
Over the weekend, I saw the comedian Shakir Standley perform standup, and among his best and most cringe-worthy jokes was one about Snoop Dogg (aka Snoopadelic, Snoop Lion, Snoopzilla), specifically about Snoop taking himself too seriously. Standley focuses on Snoop’s introductory call-to-action in the song “Pronto,” on which he collaborated with Soulja Boy, “Coming at you live, it’s your boy big Snoop Dogg/ Got my nephew Soulja Boy in this motherfucker/ We need you to move like pronto, like expeditiously.” The punchline of Standley’s joke is essentially, “I wonder if Snoop pulled out a thesaurus for that one,” because “expeditiously” sounds kinda weird in an intro that commences with, “What it do?”
Snoop Dogg is no stranger to bold rhetoric, so the fact that he will give the keynote address at this year’s SXSW Music And Media Conference is wholly unsurprising. Last year’s keynote presenter was Lady Gaga, the year before was Dave Grohl, and the year before that was Bruce Springsteen. Snoop might be one of the most recognizable names to be added to this list, which you can check out on SXSW’s website. Let’s hope he drops some monster vocabulary into his speech. The keynote takes place on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11 AM in Ballroom A of the the Austin Convention Center.
