Liam Betson – “Rapture In Heat” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
Last year, Liam Betson released The Cover Of Hunter, his excellent studio debut that came after almost a decade of putting out music under the name Liam The Younger. It’s an album marked by small personal revelations blown up to epic scale through Betson’s literary, evocative writing. On “Rapture In Heat,” the record’s closing lament, he struggles with the slippery nature of perception before ending on the kicker: “You want to be loved but say that you don’t.” The video for the track shows Betson breaking into a house and doing some traditionally domestic things: he watches a hockey game on TV and eats some snacks, he does the dishes, he takes a shower and shaves, puts on lipstick, wipes it off. He leaves the house at the end in the same state that he entered it, the owners none the wiser. Something’s changed, but you’ll never be able to put your finger on what. Watch below.
