Diamond Youth – “No Control”
Diamond Youth are a downer surf-punk four-piece out of Baltimore on the cusp of releasing their debut album Nothing Matters. Since that wonderfully freeing phrase is one that my esteemed colleague James Rettig dispatches whenever I stress out over something that boils down to meaningless ephemera, the album title resonates already. Nomenclature aside, “No Control” burns and boils, guitars turned up to verge of bleeding out. It’s not a song that fights against the idea of losing control, but welcomes it with open arms as a respite from the trap of over-planning that we all fall into. In that way, it reminds me of Tame Impala’s “Let It Happen.” Listen below.
