Brandon Flowers – “I Can Change”
When the Killers frontman Brandon Flowers and the great producer Ariel Rechtshaid get together, they make some truly impressive big-budget ’80s-style pop music. Flowers’ new solo album The Desired Effect is out soon, and all the songs we’ve heard — “Can’t Deny My Love,” “Still Want You,” “Lonely Town” — have been winners. Add to that list “I Can Change.” It’s not an LCD Soundsystem cover; instead, it’s a driving, searching midtempo jam that recalls the mid-’80s moment when all these old ’70s rock stars started piling on the synth sounds. That’s in part because it samples Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy” and features Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant. Listen to a radio rip of it below.
The Desired Effect is out 5/19 on Island.
