LA Priest – “Party Zute / Learning To Love”
LA Priest is Sam Dust, a former Late Of The Pier member who seems to have picked up an obsession with the ’70s and pastiche pop since then. “Party Zute / Learning To Love” is the second single off his debut album Inji, following up the excellent “Oino.” As the album artwork above suggests, Dust is enchanted by the faux-luxury and over-the-top grooves that characterized the ’70s. Songs with a backslash in them generally suggest a track that goes in two different directions, but “Party Zute / Learning To Love” goes in about 17, beep-blooping its way through an eight-minute funk collage of epic proportions. If these initial offerings are any indication, LA Priest’s absurdist jazz pop will emerge victorious in 2015. Listen below.
