Watch Killer Mike Discuss Rachel Dolezal On The Nightly Show
If you’ve been anywhere near the internet in the past week, you’ve doubtless encountered the confounding saga of Rachel Dolezal, the white woman (white-born woman?) who passed as black for most of her adult life, even becoming an NAACP leader in Spokane, Washington, before her parents outed her as white. It’s a story that gets weirder and weirder; this morning, Dolezal was on the TODAY show, claiming that she identifies as black but that she has “a big problem with blackface.” This is the story that was custom-made for Larry Wilmore’s Nightly Show, and he obliged, devoting last night’s entire episode to Dolezal. And it’s hard to imagine a better guest than Georgia state legislature candidate Killer Mike, who crushed it so hard on Real Time With Bill Maher last month. Mike was his usual charming, gregarious self on the show, and he had a whole lot to say about issues of racial identity and appropriation. You owe it to yourself to watch his appearance below.
You’re right, Natasha Leggero. Being Killer Mike does seem cool.
