James Taylor Celebrates First #1 Album By Sitting On A Seesaw With James Taylor

James Taylor released his first album 47 years ago. In the years since, he’s racked up a ton of accolades and sold ridiculous numbers of albums. His 1976 Greatest Hits album has sold 12 million copies in the U.S. alone. But that’s finally about to change. As Billboard reports, Taylor’s new album Before This World, his first new one since 2002, is on track to sell 75,000 copies (or, anyway, to “earn around 75,000 equivalent album units”) in its first week of release. That’s not a crazy-impressive number by any stretch, but in a slow week, it looks like it’ll be enough to get Taylor his first #1. Taylor found an appropriately goofy way to celebrate this achievement: Appearing in a Tonight Show comedy bit! Both Taylor and Jimmy Fallon were made up to look like Taylor’s ’70s self, and the two of them sang a very James Taylor-esque song about being on a seesaw together, while they were on a seesaw together. It really doesn’t require that much explanation. Watch the bit below.

Before This World is out now on Concord. Read our interview with Taylor here.
