Ex-Galaxie 500 leader Dean Wareham’s dream-pop band Luna released their debut album, Lunapark, in 1992 on Elektra Records, and continued working with the label on their next four records. Terry Tolkin, the vice president of A&R at Elektra who originally signed Luna, is now living in New Orleans and is gravely ill due to an HIV-related infection. Luna recently posted a Go Fund Me page dedicated to supporting Tolkin with life-supporting medication on their Facebook, and promptly after, offered up Wareham’s original 1991 Luna demos for purchase on Bandcamp. The demos can be purchased for $7 — and those proceeds go to Tolkin’s medical expenses — and include five songs that would later be included on Lunapark. The band included the following note with the demos:

These are demo tracks from the period after Galaxie 500 broke up, recorded at Wharton Tiers’ Fun City Studios in New York City, featuring Dean Wareham accompanied by drummer Jimmy Chambers (Mercury Rev) and, on “I Can’t Wait” by Hamish Kilgour of the Clean. Later versions of the songs appear on Luna’s Lunapark album.

Luna (at this early stage Dean Wareham) was signed to Elektra by A&R man Terry Tolkin who had previously worked at Rough Trade, Touch & Go and Caroline Records. Terry now lives in New Orleans and is gravely ill. He is fighting a rare and aggressive virus that has his doctors perplexed, and facing huge medical bills for hospital visits, thrice-weekly dialysis and prescription drug co-pays.
