Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments

Happy new Global Release Day! There actually weren’t so many exciting albums released this week, but there was a lot of wacky news. Shaggy shared a plan to defeat ISIS … Ko?n remixed ?ihanna … Weezer was in a weird Honda commercial and SOPHIE soundtracked a McDonald’s one … Number Eight made a video for Kanye West … Spandau Ballet became EDM stars … Isaac Brock turned 40 and grouchy … Someone made a playable tortilla record … Ariana Grande maliciously licked a donut. All ridiculous stories and if you don’t like us posting them you can ask me some questions. I’m seeing Taylor Swift in NJ tomorrow night — hmu if you wanna grab a pretzel during Vance Joy.

Yeah, I’m not mad about this. Humility is a more a Frank Ocean thing than a Miguel thing; just think about the personas they communicate in their songs. I still believe Miguel has yet to record a song as emotionally gripping as “Thinkin’ Bout You” or “Bad Religion,” or a jam as epic as “Pyramids,” but in terms of killer-with-no-filler Miguel knows what he’s doing, and he’s growing by leaps and bounds with each record. He’s right: its a marathon, and right now Miguel is lapping Frank Ocean. Making your fans wait forever for new music doesn’t automatically make you an enigmatic auteur – it can also mean completely missing your window.

Isn’t Frank’s LP dropping this month? Weren’t there hints that it was going to surprise release this month? Either way, I got SUPER excited on Fourth of July when it occurred to me that we’d be getting new music from Frank sooner than later.

All that being said, I’m afraid Miguel jumped the gun. Nothing worse than saying you make better music when there is an unheard album’s worth of music by the guy you’re talking about right around the corner.

I played “Crack Rock” into “Pyramids” over the weekend and let me tell you, Miguel has NOT made a song better than “Pyramids”, full stop.

“Maliciously lick” is my new favorite phrase.

Imagine having to explain that on a job application.

Classic diversion. I use childhood obesity to get out of almost everything.

Fortunately, Owl City rhymes with “Bowel Shitty.” Unfortunately, I’m an adult.

Awww, that Hanson song reminds me of when I was a kid! I sure did hate Hanson back then.

I would like to see more articles in the future where you shit on popular bad artists.

I know vitriol can become toxic, but I feel ever since poptomism took hold we’ve been pretending musical crimes against humanity don’t exist. Maybe you can do One Republic or Imagine Dragons next.

So is this like a Premature Evaluation or is Owl City still eligible for AOTW after this write up?

Egoism is repulsive, and the fact that so many people are unbothered by this guy’s lack of respect for anyone’s talents but his own and are even willing to stick up for him when he says something that is ludicrously false (as false as if McCartney claimed to be the world’s greatest rapper) is disturbing.

It’s okay Corey. You were probably born in le wrong generation, just like those angry twelve year old Queen fans (your fanbase, basically). Hakuna matata, baby.
