New York underground rap monster Despot has been doing serious damage on other people’s songs in recent years. He’s shown up on tracks with people like El-P and Das Racist and Blood Orange, and he’s just wrecked shit. And he’s kept himself busy, touring with Run The Jewels and co-hosting his “Down 4 So Long (Remix)” collaborator Ezra Koenig’s Beats 1 radio show. But he hasn’t come out with his own album, something that’s become a running joke among people who pay attention to this sort of thing. So it’s enormously encouraging to see that he’s got a new single out today, and it’s even more encouraging that it bangs. “House Of Bricks” has a chorus that riffs on “The Three Little Pigs” and a gasping beat from E*Vax, one half of Ratatat. And Despot sounds strong as hell on it. Listen below.
