Lorely Rodriguez, the Brooklyn-based artist who records as Empress Of, wrote, performed, produced, and engineered every track on her excellent new album Me on her own. But in a recent live-in-studio session for Yours Truly, she got some help from a few prominent names. As Pitchfork points out, that Yours Truly studio session also included Blood Orange mastermind and indie production mastermind Dev Hynes on cello and guitar, as well as Kimbra on backing vocals. Rodriguez sang powerful, entirely reworked versions of her album tracks “Icon,” “Kitty Kat,” and “How Do You Do It,” and it made for a striking and potent performance. Watch it below.
