Ice Cube Cast As Scrooge In Latest A Christmas Carol Remake
This summer, the massively successful N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton reminded the world that Cube was once one of the world’s most vital and important rappers. Cube was a producer on the movie, and his own son played him, nicely portraying the forbidding intensity that Cube gave off in the late ’80s and early ’90s. This might be a good time for Cube to capitalize on that image of himself, to make something truly edgy. But that’s not happening. Instead, he’s about to play Scrooge.
Deadline reports that Cube will earn eight figures for playing the lead in Humbug, the latest reboot of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Cube’s character will be “a wealthy real estate mogul shown a path to redemption by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.” Tim Story, who directed Cube in Barbershop and Ride Along, will be the auteur responsible. Cube will also produce. Sounds amazing.
There is basically a 0% chance that Cube will do better at this than Bill Murray did in Scrooged, but it’s happening anyway. The movie is set for a possible 2017 release, but that’s not confirmed yet. In the meantime, Cube and Story will team up on Ride Along 2, which comes out in January.
