TIGUE – “Mouth” (Feat. Ira Kaplan & James McNew) (Stereogum Premiere)
Words often anchor and define songs, choruses and verses serving as placemarks to denote a beginning, middle, and end. The lack of lyrics in TIGUE’s latest single “Mouth”, however, manage to compensate for lyrics with rhythmic grooves, calculated strokes, and fuzzy guitars — some of them handled by Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan and James McNew. The five-minute instrumental track bubbles and hovers in a drum-filled elongated buildup, ultimately bursting in a bass-heavy crescendo. It’s a pleasing blast of abstract art-rock from the Ohio-born, Brooklyn-based band’s forthcoming debut record Peaks. Listen below.
Peaks is out 11/13 via New Amsterdam Records. Pre-order it here.
