Urban Outfitters Launches Cassette Program With Retro Players, Exclusive Run The Jewels & Halsey Tapes
Urban Outfitters — already one of the world’s largest purveyors of vinyl (though not the largest, thanks Amazon) — is getting into the tape business, right on the heels of increasing sales and increasingly prevalent trend pieces. Beginning this month — online and in select brick-and-mortar stores — Urban Outfitters will now have cassettes and retro cassette players in stock alongside their massive (and massively expensive) vinyl display.
According to a press release, their new tape program will feature exclusive pressings from a number of artists, starting off with Run The Jewels, Halsey, and Marina & the Diamonds. They’ll also carry tapes from the likes of Beach House, Action Bronson, Alvvays, American Football, Foals, Japandroids, Muse, Method Man, and more.
A number of their stores will also be participating in Cassette Store Day at the end of this week (10/17), and Volume 11 of their relatively new UO Mixtape series will be available for free in all of the US stores on that day, as well.
