Red Hot Chili Peppers Line Up John Legend, Kamasi Washington For 300-Seat Warehouse Benefit
Kamasi Washington is having a huge 2015. The young LA saxophonist’s work on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly earned a spotlight for The Epic, the rightly titled 3xLP experimental jazz opus he released on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label back in May. And now it seems Washington is becoming the kind of guy who plays super-exclusive benefit concerts alongside John Legend and the Red Hot Chili Peppers where art by Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons is auctioned for charity. RHCP leaders Flea and Anthony Kiedis are throwing just such an event in support of the Silverlake Conservatory Of Music this Saturday at an undisclosed warehouse in Frog Town. Washington is contributing “additional music” alongside an acoustic Peppers performance and a headlining set from Legend. Art from Hirst and Koons plus Raymond Pettibon, Shepard Fairey, Gus Van Sant, Dennis Hopper, Bernie Taupin and more will be auctioned off. Sounds like quite the shebang, and only 300 tickets are available, so if you’re rich enough to attend such a thing, contact events.scm@outlook.com about getting a table.
