Big Ears Festival 2016 Lineup
Every year, many of the world’s leading indie, experimental, and avant-garde musicians descend upon Knoxville, Tennessee for the Big Ears Festival. Many of them aren’t doing their regular sets, either; they’re doing special one-time-only performances or one-off collaborations. As Rolling Stone reports, Big Ears just announced its lineup for next year’s festival, which comes to venues around Knoxville 3/31 – 4/2, and it’s an impressive one.
The bill includes big names like Kamasi Washington, Angel Olsen, Shabazz Palaces, Andrew Bird, SUNN O))), Andy Stott, Wolf Eyes, Marc Ribot, and Circuit Des Yeux. Krautrock legends Faust will perform, and they’ll also join Tony Conrad to perform their 1973 collaboration Outside The Dream Syndicate. Yo La Tengo and Lambchop both have shows on their own, but they’ll also perform together, as a unit. New York old gods Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson will play a show together and premiere a new collaboration. Nicolas Jaar will do a DJ set. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will do a night of the music of Glass, John Luther Adams, and the National’s Bryce Dessner. Dessner and Bonnie “Prince” Billy will perform with the adventurous L.A. group eighth blackbird. Nico Muhly, Ben Frost, Sam Amidon, and Valgeir Sigurðsson will play a show to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Bedroom Community. You’ll find more info, along with the full lineup, over here.
