Kirin J Callinan – “The Teacher” (Feat. Connan Mockasin) Video
Australian experimentalist Kirin J Callinan was responsible for a lot of great visuals behind his 2013 debut album, Embracism, and it looks like he’s continuing the trend for his follow-up, which is due out next year. Last month, he shared the LP’s lead single, “The Teacher,” and today he gives us a smoothly sliding, very ’80s video for it. The clip features Callinan in a variety of costumes and poses, largely in a floral top against a blue-grid background. He’s joined by his collaborator on the track, fellow down under musician Connan Mockasin, who plays sax and looks seductively at the camera. Check it out via The Fader below.
Here’s what Callinan had to say to say about the vid to Fader:
I wanna acknowledge those behind the scenes who were essential to the making o’ the clip, especially with such limited resources, startin’ with champion whistler Molly Lewis and producer extraordinaire Jason Trucco, whom together and apart found the locations, the talent, the pizza and the patience. Also, I gutta thank Effi Shoua for the space & the time, his kids & his lights, as well as Kii Arens for his camera, Hiromi Oshima for the kiss, Ethan Silverman for the kicks, Marquis & Wolfy for being up for it, The Oaks School Hollywood, Nuspace on Beverly, and the Sexy Sax Man Sergio Flores, who leant us his sexy sax.
Callinan’s sophomore album is out next year via Terrible Records.
