P-funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell has been diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer, according to a Facebook post from his wife. Speaking to The Asbury Park Press (via Rolling Stone), she says that Worrell was first diagnosed with a mild form of prostate cancer, but further tests revealed 4th stage liver cancer and the aforementioned lung cancer.

Worrell’s wife has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for a new record, Retrospectives. “He wants his album released in his lifetime … then, we will address trying to find a cure for him,” she wrote. “We have rejected chemotherapy (at this point) but he is undergoing naturopathic treatment (for which we are trying to raise money) which does the same but without the toxic chemical stew.”
