The Recording Academy announced the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipients today and there is a bit of history being made. Run-D.M.C. will be the first rap act to ever receive the award, but the trio is a member of a varied group. Ruth Brown, Celia Cruz, Earth, Wind & Fire, Herbie Hancock, Jefferson Airplane, and Linda Ronstadt comprise the rest of the class. The fact that it has taken this long to honor a rap act is pretty incredible, but Run-D.M.C. is a great first honoree. This year’s Grammys may indeed be alright.
