Watch Killer Mike’s Conversation With Olympian And Civil Rights Activist Tommie Smith
It would be cool if Run The Jewels 3 came out like yesterday, but if the music is going to take a backseat Killer Mike’s string of outspoken politics/activism, then the wait is much more tolerable. The killer of mics has already been vocal via social media in support of Amber Coffman, spoken at Bernie Sanders’ rally in the ATL, interviewed Sanders, and briefed the Supreme Court in support of rap lyrics.
Today, Mike shared a large part of a conversation he had with iconic Olympian and activist Tommie Smith. Smith is most famous for donning one black glove and erecting a proud black power fist alongside John Carlos on the medal podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. The two sat down in Mike’s SWAG Shop barbershop and chopped it up about Smith’s historic Olympic stunt, modern activism, Black Lives Matter, racism, apartheid, and numerous other topics. Smith is sharp at 71 and is still very much in tune with today’s post-civil rights black activism. If you have 20 minutes or so, it’s definitely worth checking out.
Also, if we can’t have the RTJ album yet, can we please get a show called Chopping It Up In The Shop With Killer Mike or something to that effect on TV somewhere? Feel free to leave a better name in the comments. Watch the interview below.
