Children Of Pop – “Manic” (Stereogum Premiere)
Children Of Pop is the DIY bedroom synth-pop project of Houston’s Chase DeMaster. We’ve heard from DeMaster sparingly since 2013’s Fiesta/Drift, but his one-offs, like “Charge,” are always welcome. We’ll be getting more than loosies from DeMaster very soon. He’s announced his upcoming full-length, What Does 69 Mean? and is kicking it off with the lead single “Manic.” To say the song is aptly named is an understatement, but DeMaster exhibits a deft control of temperament, energy, and rhythm. The song slowly builds off of sparse drums and warped synth flourishes careening into an all-out electro dance groove with layers on layers of infectious synths intertwining for a frenetic, highly danceable trip. Check it out.
