Run The Jewels – “Crown” Virtual Reality Video
Underground rap rulers Run The Jewels have a flair for the provocative. In real life, Killer Mike has been active in campaigning for Bernie Sanders, defending Beyoncé and free speech, and having some great conversations with activists. But visually and musically, they’ve been quiet since teasing their upcoming album Run The Jewels 3 on Instagram.
Today, they combine real life, visuals, and music in their virtual reality video for “Crown” from their incredible Run The Jewels 2. The video is hosted in the New York Times virtual reality app, and it’s a nifty experience. As you move your phone around, you experience difference elements of the black-and-white video. Killer Mike and El-P spit their verses in the “center” of the video with characters portraying the people they address in their lyrics. A tilt up reveals dark, stormy clouds over head. Rotating your phone reveals the entire video set on a 360-degree axis. Check it out on the NYT VR app on both IOS and Android, and watch preview footage below.
