Colleen Green – “Green My Eyes”
While in California this past weekend for Coachella, I tried to listen to mostly West Coast artists on the drive back to the airport, and one of the albums I chose to throw on was Colleen Green’s I Want To Grow Up. It was already one of my favorite albums from last year, but listening to it while white-knuckling it through the anxiety-inducing stop-and-start traffic on I-10 only made it resonate even more. Green’s following up that album in a few weeks with a self-titled EP that sees her returning to the self-recorded sound of her earlier work. We’ve already heard “Between The Lines” and today, in honor of the green holiday, she’s sharing another one called “Green My Eyes.” It’s all about trying to contain your jealous streak so you don’t seem like a crazy person to the one you like, but Green still wonders if suppressing that doubting side of herself is the healthiest option: “What am I supposed to do? What is it supposed to be? What a mystery…” Listen below.
Colleen Green is out 5/13 via Infinity Cat’s cassette series.
