Grammar – “Americana” (Stereogum Premiere)
Grammar, the Boston-based electronic pop project led by multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Barrie Lindsay, has just released “Americana,” the latest single off their upcoming debut EP. Lindsay describes the song as a “dreamy American road trip,” and from the moment she first sings, “We’re in your car,” it truly takes you on a journey, one of resolution found in internal strength. The song matches a twinkling, iridescent synth sound with Lindsay’s glowing voice, eventually building in electricity until you feel like you’re swirling in sound. Though the song may at times feel gentle and fragile, as Lindsay sings, “These are my honest days and I’m getting better,” you can’t help but feel her embrace of personal growth. As “Americana” fades out, it feels as if the road trip has reached its destination, its sincerity illuminating that even if we feel small, we aren’t so small after all. Listen below.
