Carly Rae Jepsen & Ariel Rechtshaid Break Down “When I Needed You” On Song Exploder Podcast
Carly Rae Jepsen is the latest guest to break down a song for the Song Exploder podcast. She recorded her episode of the show live at San Francisco’s Noise Pop festival, and went into the making of the E•MO•TION standard-edition closing track “When I Needed You.” All of CRJ’s tracks have a bunch of different hands on them behind-the-scenes, so it’s fascinating to see how the song was built brick-by-brick: first through a demo she made with longtime songwriting collaborator and touring bandmate Tavish Crowe, then with an instrumental from Dan Nigro and Nate Campany, and finally with producer Ariel Rechtshaid chiming in to explain how he brought the track to its final state.
