Todd Terje & The Olsens – “Firecracker” (Martin Denny Cover)
The instrumental track “Firecracker” has had a long and strange history. It started out live in 1959, as an Asian-kitsch exotica number from the composer Martin Denny. Then, in 1978, the Japanese experimental synthpop greats Yellow Magic Orchestra remade it in their own image. And now, the fun-loving Norwegian producer Todd Terje has turned it into cheeky disco-house. Terje’s version, credited to Todd Terje & The Olsens, comes from The Big Cover-Up, his new collection of covers; we’ve already posted his version of Boney M’s “Baby Do You Wanna Bump (Daniel Maloso Remix).” And below, you can hear his take on “Firecracker.”
The Big Cover-Up is out 6/17 on Terje’s own Olsen Records.
