Heavy Drag – “Leave It Alone” (Stereogum Premiere)
Heavy Drag are a psych grunge outfit from Miami that garnish their dour marches with a smidgen of surf-rock flair. The band is releasing their debut LP Sábana Ghost this summer, and today we are premiering “Leave It Alone,” a horror-tinged current of swamp water and sunburn. The vocals are airy, pulsating shivers, the harmonies effervescent and hypnotic. “You’ve got your problems, now what do you want/ You put your feelings all up to the front,” vocalists Andreas Wong Chong and Michael Ruiz-Unger scorn, apparently not ones to let extreme emotions escape from the orbit of their dense cool. “Leave It Alone” is a boiling, bleary rock song that doesn’t shoot for the stars so much as brings the stars down to its level. Listen below.
