Stream Moon Bros. These Stars
Moon Bros. is the recording alias of Matt Schneider, a Chicago native with a fascination for tender-spoken alt-country and spacey Americana. After years of shuffling through various post-rock ensembles, Schneider returned to his hometown to tend to his children and carpentry, as well as finally sit down and write songs in his preferred style. The result of this period spent in domestic immobility is his new album “These Stars,” an eight-track improvisational effort loosely wound with a stunning wingspan. Last month Schneider released the forthcoming LP’s patiently yearning title-track, and today we’re premiering the full album a day ahead of its official release.
These Stars is technically Moon Bros. sixth recording, but it’s the first to receive a wide-release. Schneider is joined this time around by Tortoise’s Dan Bitney, Iron & Wine’s Matt Lux, and the Cairo Gang’s Sam Wagster, with Brian Sulpizio of Health And Beauty serving as producer and engineer. Alongside his team of collaborators, Schneider cruises through Autumn-colored tapestries of rambling folk. There are these long instrumental passages where everyone seems to decelerate their playing to allow air to rush in from underneath, and then moments where all the loose threads become momentarily taught for a sudden impact. Every second of the album passes by like water drops collecting at the tip of a flower petal, individual stretches of beauty compiled by the end into a single significant force that collectively breaks from all tethers.
