Adam Torres – “Juniper Arms” Video
We’ve already heard “High Lonesome” and “Outlands” from the upcoming Adam Torres LP Pearls To Swine, the Texas-via-Ohio songwriter’s first new album in a decade. Today he’s shared yet another new song entitled “Juniper Arms,” along with its accompanying Brian Wiebe-directed video. “Carry me down/ Down from the stars/ Wrap me around/ Juniper arms,” Torres croons in a high-pitched quiver, his evocative depiction sweet and somber. Where Cass McCombs delivers his ballads with an unreadable smirk, Torres traverses similar sonic terrain completely unadorned in nothing but his unshakable sincerity. Speaking with NPR, Torres said that, “the main character in the video is a gardener in an unforgiving terrain that receives the aid of spirits (dancers) to help make juniper trees grow.” The dancers Owen Porterfield and Jordan Moser sought to express the “carrying of one another’s burdens and the concept of personal ritual,” and improvised most of their performance on site.
