Kehlani – “Gangsta”
Oakland’s Kehlani has returned to music with great newfound strength, resolve and rawness since attempting suicide just a few months ago. She’s released a nice hat trick of one-offs with “24/7,” “CRZY,” and “Distraction,” and her bold vulnerability and resolution to do her thing has come through on each.
Today, her contribution to Suicide Squad:The Album has dropped, and it’s called “Gangsta.” It’s a fittingly cinematic, hypnotic, slow-churner with the songstress detailing the kind of excitement she craves and the type of man who can give it to her. Apparently it’s featured in scenes when Harley Quinn and the Joker are onscreen together, and it has a chilling effect to go along with their twisted, loony relationship. Unfortunately you can’t hear the entire song because Zane Lowe gabbers over the second half, but you can get the gist of it. Listen.
Suicide Squad: The Album is out 8/5 in tandem with the Suicide Squad film. Pre-order it here.
