Wet – “The Middle” & “Turn Away”
Wet landed on many a mid-year best albums list with their excellent effort Don’t You, which dropped at the beginning of the year. And just as they’re about to embark on a tour in support of the album, they’re back with two new tracks — “The Middle” and “Turn Away.” The former is a synth-splashed, minimal yet filling simmer about being in an emotional tug-of-war. The latter is another slow burner with zooming synths and atmospheric sweeps swelling underneath Kelly Zutrau’s gauzy vocals as she implores a lover not to leave when she needs them most. Here’s what the band told The Fader about the songs:
These songs are about being stuck in in-between places on a few levels, being in the ambiguous place between the end of a relationship and whatever is next. Our country being between presidents and feeling the collective anxiety while everyone waits to see what kind of place this is going to be in the next few years. Being between album cycles right now but still touring on Don’t You. Everything feels very up in the air.
Listen to “The Middle” up top and “Turn Away” now.
