Zella Day – “Man On The Moon”
Zella Day is back with her first new track since the release of her debut album Kicker last year. She’s working on another album expected next year, and this is the first taste of new direction she’s headed in. The single is called “Man On The Moon” and it’s a dense, decadent, exquisitely layered song like a thick slice of devil’s food wedding cake.
It opens with a rich multi-part harmony and melts into an R&b-tinged ballad before folky harmonica and jangly guitar interject for a deftly arranged fusion of genres. Day’s gauzy vocals get a “Computer Love”-esque layer added; it’s easy to get lost in them until a children’s choir comes in with the anthemic phrase “I’m in your dreams now” and winding synths bring the song to a dreamy crescendo. Day has certainly thickened her sound, and it will stick to your ribs. Check it out.
“Man On The Moon” will be out as part of a 7″ single on B3SCI Records soon.
