Over a year ago, Baton Rouge rapper Kevin Gates was charged with battery for kicking an 18-year-old female fan at a concert in Lakeland, Florida. The fan, Miranda Dixon, pulled at Gates’ shorts, and his reaction was to kick her in the chest/stomach area. Dixon was knocked unconscious and hospitalized. Gates responded immaturely and inappropriately in his song “The Truth,” basically implying that she had it coming, and now he’s been sentenced to 180 days in Polk Country, Florida jail. According to WFLA, Rumor’s Nite Club’s security head testified that Gates’ team did not request additional security nor a barricade between the stage and the audience. He also noted that there was room for Gates to back up onstage if he didn’t want to be touched by fans. Gates was convicted by a jury of six women and immediately taken into custody.
