Mega Bog – “London”
Erin Birgy’s second LP as Mega Bog, Happy Together, is due for release this coming February. Today she’s sharing a new single from the project called “London” and dedicating it to the memory of Nick Gomez-Hall, a close friend who died in the fire at Oakland DIY venue Ghost Ship last weekend. She’s also directing attention to a fund for Ghost Ship victims.
Gomez-Hall was a musician and photographer; he played in a band called Nightmom and took the in-studio photos of Birgy at the top and bottom of this post. Birgy writes, “Nick is a true glider who nourishes the reality of unconditional love to protect his friends’ (their friends, and their friends) radically vulnerable adventure. He easily documented & encouraged some of the most transitory and magical moments of my, and friends’, lives, just by showing us how incredible this life already is and grows on to be.”
As for “London,” it’s a jazzy experimental rock track — spacious, warm, and eerie, with brass, guitar, and vocal melodies weaving in the ether. It portends good things for Mega Bog’s new album. Listen below.
Mega Bog are playing a pair of benefit shows in New York this weekend:
12/09 Ridgewood, NY @ 390 Seneca Ave (Benefit for Planned Parenthood)
12/10 New York, NY @ (Le) Poisson Rouge (Benefit for Standing Rock)
Happy Together is out 2/3 on Nicey Music. Pre-order it here.
