Watch Drive-By Truckers Play The Poignant, Powerful “Ramon Casiano” On Conan
On their 2016 album American Band, longtime Southern rock warriors Drive-By Truckers did everything they could to address the toxic, divided place that the United States find themselves in right now. And last night, as musical guests on Conan, they went for maximum poignancy. Co-leader Mike Cooley sang the album opener “Ramon Casiano,” a song about a Mexican teenager who was murdered in Texas in 1931. Harlon B. Carter, the man who killed him, would serve no prison time and would go on to lead the NRA. During the performance, the DBT became the first band I’ve ever seen who have used a Black Lives Matter sign as part of their stage set. All of this is important, and the song and performance are good on their own merits, as well. Watch it all below.
American Band is out now on ATO.
