Main Source Announce Reunion Show
The classic-era rap trio Main Source, which included the great Queens rapper/producer Large Professor and the Toronto DJs Sir Scratch and K-Cut, was only around for a few years. And they only released one album, the 1991 classic Breaking Atoms, before Large Professor left the group. But they’ve still left a solid-gold legacy, crafting a generous handful of dusty classics, including the posse cut “Live At The Barbecue,” which featured the first appearance of Nas. So it’s cool to see that they’re reuniting for at least one show.
Vinyl Me, Please — a company that I’ve done freelance work for — is planning a 25th-anniversary vinyl reissue of Breaking Atoms, and to celebrate that, Main Source will play a 2/1 show at the New York club S.O.B.’s. Maybe Nas will show up! Tickets are for sale here.
That Breaking Atoms reissue is set to include color-in-color vinyl, a bonus 7″, gatefold packaging, a foreword from Pharoahe Monch, a 12-page lyric booklet, and an original art print. Check out the details here, and read Jeff Weiss’ liner-notes essay here.
