Deep State – “No Idea Pt. II”
“We’re giving away ourselves,” Taylor Chmura continually bemoans towards the end of “No Idea Pt. II,” the powerful new anthem from Athens, GA rockers Deep State. The band is set to release its debut full-length, Thought Garden, this April, and “No Idea” is the album’s thundering lead single. The song is frenetic and anthemic, the energy immediate in everything from Chmura’s airy yelp to guitars that burst like sparks from a railtrack. They sound like the Districts, but distinctly Southern, and they’re full of existential introspection over how far we’ve let our identities erode. “Guilty by appropriation…Guilty by approximation,” goes one of Chmura’s most burning accusations, after wondering aloud, “Isn’t a fact more intriguing?” There seems to be no clear answer anymore, yet somehow “No Idea Pt. II” still sounds like a solution. Listen to the song and check out the band’s upcoming tour dates below.
