Moogfest Lineup 2017
This year, the synth-centric North Carolina festival Moogfest moves from Asheville to Durham, and it takes over its new host city 5/18-21. The festival has just unveiled this year’s lineup, and it features plenty of heavy hitters, including Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, Gotye, KING, S U R V I V E, Nick Zinner, the Haxan Cloak, Dave Harrington, Wolf Eyes, Pharmakon, Jessy Lanza, Moor Mother, Simian Mobile Disco, Derrick May, and 808 State. And as always, the festival will feature plenty of special events that you won’t get to see anywhere else.
For instance, Gotye is putting on a tribute to French synth pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey, performing with Perrey’s Ondioline Orchestra. Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and the Haxan Cloak are performing together in what the festival calls a “durational performance.” S U R V I V E members Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein are doing a live version of their score for the Netflix show Stranger Things. Dave Harrington is debuting his live score for the 1922 silent horror movie Haxan. Former LaBelle member Nona Hendryx is performing and doing a conversation about her “wearable tech instruments.” Basically, if you love synthesizers, you should be able to have a whole lot of fun at this one.
